Hello, Parents!
It’s been a week! Students are working on expectations and homework completion. Many students missed some time today for DOGS reward because of not completing their homework, misbehavior in class, and disrespectful behavior toward teachers. Please talk with your student to see how they are doing with their behavior in class. Book Clubs are in full force! Students have a schedule of what pages must be read by specific dates in their ELA Binder. Students will be reading their book club book AND their AR book. They are only reading their book club to the page required by their book club meeting date. Please do not have your child read on. Students must complete their Thought Box Assignment by Thursday. This will help increase participation in book club conversations. I have a new expectation for Lexia and Imagine Math Goals. Each student has a goal to meet their Lexia goal of 20 units and their Imagine Math Lesson of 2 Lessons passed to complete each week. For the trimester, students still have 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete these goals, but I am assigning it as homework every day so it can be done by Friday. If students do not complete it, they will sign the responsibility binder. I understand that students are absent, but Lexia and Imagine Math can be done at home. I will make adjustments and accommodations as needed. ***Update: This works for many students, so I will implement this rule for the rest of the year! Here are some announcements for the next trimester: Students need to wear their ID Cards and DOG Tags every day, but they are allowed to keep them at school. This protocol is essential since Maltby is so big that if all students have their cards and tags on them, we can identify them in passing times. AR: Students will try to meet their goal of 15 AR points for the 2nd Trimester. The AR Test can only be taken at school. Students will also get an AR Comprehension grade, which should be between 80% and 100%. Late/Absent Work: Students will have homework, and they will have absent work if they are not at school. All homework is written in the planner, and we put our daily work agenda on Google Classroom. If you have yet to go onto Google Classroom, please do so soon so you know what is happening in class. I take 10% off for students who turn in late work since it is not turned in on time. Also, for absent work, students have as many days as they were absent plus one day to complete it. For example, if your student is absent on Monday and returns to school on Tuesday, their absent work will be due on Thursday. Planners: Please sign the planner every day! Math: We are almost read to test again for Unit 3. We will be testing on Thursday for Lesson 3.8 through 3.14. We are learning about fractions!I have included the Family Letter for the unit and the answers to the home links in our Google Classroom. Also, if your student is absent, all the lesson videos are on Google Classroom. Reading/Writing: Students are working on Book Clubs. The first two meetings were great! Examples of Thought Boxes are on Google Classroom. AR: Students also work on reading for AR every day. From now on, students will take their reading binder home and to school every day. Students are also working on Power Up (Lexia) and reading for AR points. Science: Students are learning about the Water Cycle. We will be testing on Go With the Flow Cycle 2 on Friday, January 24th. Social Studies: Students are learning about American Indians Tribe. Homework: Thought Boxes and Thick Questions for Book Club Meeting #3 is due on Thursday (can start over the weekend and will have 2 class periods to work on it in school), Homelink 3.13, Math Boxes 3.13 on Math Journal page 107 and Math Journal page 103, reading for AR and filling out reading log Parent to-do list:
