Hello, Parents!
We are finally returning to a routine after last week's cold days! This week, we finished Unit 3 and moved on to Unit 4, decimals! We are back to the routine of homework every night, but there will also be more fun math projects we can do! Also, now that Book Clubs are over, students will create Book Talk Presentations to present to the class about their books. This presentation will be a fun activity to wrap up our book club work! ** I have a new expectation for Lexia and Imagine Math Goals. Each student has a goal to meet their Lexia goal of 20 units and their Imagine Math Lesson of 2 Lessons passed to complete each week. For the trimester, students still have 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete these goals, but I am assigning it as homework every day so it can be done by Friday. If students do not complete it, they will sign the responsibility binder. I understand that students are absent, but Lexia and Imagine Math can be done at home. I will make adjustments and accommodations as needed. Update: This works for many students so I will implement this rule for the rest of the year! Here are some announcements for the trimester: Warm and Fuzzy Spirit Day on Friday, February 7th Students must wear their ID Cards and DOG Tags daily, but they are allowed to keep them at school. This protocol is essential since Maltby is so big that if all students have their cards and tags on them, we can identify them in passing times. AR: Students will try to meet their goal of 15 AR points for the 2nd Trimester. The AR Test can only be taken at school. Students will also get an AR Comprehension grade, which should be between 80% and 100%. AR points will be due on Friday, March 14th! Late/Absent Work: Students will have homework, and they will have absent work if they are not at school. All homework is written in the planner, and we put our daily work agenda on Google Classroom. If you have yet to go onto Google Classroom, please do so soon so you know what is happening in class. I take 10% off for students who turn in late work since it is not turned in on time. Also, for absent work, students have as many days as they were absent, plus one day to complete it. For example, if your student is absent on Monday and returns to school on Tuesday, their absent work will be due on Thursday. Planners: Please sign the planner every day! Math: We have started Unit 4. I have included the Family Letter for the unit and the answers to the home links in our Google Classroom. If your student is absent, all the lesson videos are also on Google Classroom. Reading/Writing: The students have finished their book club books and thought boxes. Next, we will move on to Nonfiction Reading and Writing. AR: Students also work on reading for AR every day. From now on, they will take their reading binder home and to school every day. They are also working on Power Up (Lexia) and reading for AR points due on Friday, March 14th! Science: Students are learning about the Water Cycle. We will be testing on Go With the Flow Cycle 2 on Friday, January 24th. Social Studies: Students will take their Lesson 2 and Lesson 3 Test on Monday. Homework: Math Boxes 4.1 on Math Journal page 111, Study for Lesson 2 and 3 Social Studies test on Monday, reading for AR and filling out reading log. Parent to-do list:
I hope everyone has a great weekend! Mrs. Orrico
