Happy October 1st! We made it through September! This week we drove right into strategies to become better Readers. Students are practicing jotting down notes with sticky notes while they read. They are also finding evidence to prove claims about our main character, Chase, in our Read Aloud, Restart. Students have also been working on communication and collaboration by working with partners and groups to complete all subject areas. Here are some announcements for next week: Items Students Need to Bring from Home: **Students do need headphones and computer mouses for class every day. If possible, please send in plug-in headphones (not Bluetooth) for your student starting Monday, October 30, 2021 Parents! what you need to sign this weekend:
**5th Grade CAMP: Camp Packet went home today. Please sign the papers and have your student turn in the parents on Monday. Parents who were selected to be volunteers/chaperones at the camp were emailed this week. Please check your email for a confirmation email. Thank you to all the parents who signed up to volunteer. I am looking forward to having an incredible camp experience with our class!** Absent Students: Please look on Google Classroom for Assignments and Homework that you missed. I will have all the paper copies for you when you return, and you will need to get your absent packet signed by a parent. Friday Folders: Please take out all the papers we did this week. The front sheet is a communication log to let you know how your student is doing in class. Please sign and turn it in on Monday. Planners: Please sign the planner for Friday! Math: The unit 1 Test is on Tuesday. We will have a review on Monday in class. There will be review homework on Monday night, and then we will correct the homework on Tuesday and take the test on Tuesday. Retakes will be later next week or the week following. Reading/Writing: This week, we are working on finding evidence in our read-aloud to support our claim. Science: We continue to work on CER, practice identifying lab safety in the classroom, and work on our team-building skills by doing a STEM activity to engineer the longest paper chain. What a week! The students had Pink Out Spirit Week, a CER Showdown, and a day off of school with the power outage on Wednesday! Yet, with all those eventful activities, students were still able to learn through all the fun! Here are some announcements for next week: **Students do need headphones for class every day. I would have let you know this weekend, but Mr. Brenner and Mr. Aten are working on Camp Plans and would like teachers to wait to announce chaperones. This week students started on the first unit in Math which is all about Area and Volume. Also, students were able to find "Just Right" books for them and start recording their reading on a Reading Log. Some students even took their first AR Quizzes! Remember, the goal is to get 20 AR points by the end of the trimester! Lastly, one of the biggest goals for students is to stay organized and to gain responsible by taking and bringing back school materials every night. This goal is a constant reminder in the classroom, and with just enough practice, I am hoping the students will get in the groove by the end of September! Remember students will read over the weekend and turn their reading log in on Monday. Science: Students had the chance to explore the metric system by measuring objects in the room. They did take their quiz today, and they will get it back on Monday. This quiz will be their first science grade in the grade book. The first week of school was a SUCCESS. This week's focus was all about relationship building. Students worked together for team-building challenges, and they started building relationships with each other. Also, students were able to experienced Encores for both A and B days. Throughout the week, students learned how to do the daily routines and procedures included in our daily schedule. Here are some announcements for next week: Friday Folders: Please take out all the worksheets we did this week. Students will take home this folder every Friday and bring it back on Monday. There will be a check-in sheet starting next Friday for you to sign. Planners: Please sign the planner for Friday! Math: We will be starting Unit 1 next week.
