Hello, Parents!
It is a new trimester! We officially finished Unit 2 in Math, and we will be moving to Unit 3 on Monday. For ELA, we have started book clubs. Students have a schedule of what pages must be read by certain dates in their ELA Binder. Students will be reading their book club book AND their AR book. They are only reading their book club to the page required by their book club meeting date. Please do not have your child read on. Students must make 1 to 2 sticky notes while reading their book club each time. This will help increase participation in book club conversations. Our first book club meetings are on Monday, December 4th! They will need to have complete one Thought Box. Here are some announcements for next week: The Canned Food Drive is here. Please start collecting canned food items and nonperishable items. This is an exciting event that the kids love, allowing us to give back to the community. Please send in canned food (no glass or expired food, please) in a bag marked with your child's homeroom on it. You may also donate online (please note your child's homeroom, so they get credit) or send cash or a check to the office. For our class only, if each student brings in 10 canned goods or 10 dollars by December 6th, then I will provide the class with a special snack on Friday, December 22nd! Students can also make monetary donations!! Our kids win for learning to give back to the community!! The winning Maltby classroom of the Food Can Prix also gets to have their names on the Maltby trophy and keep it in their classroom for the remainder of the year!! Thanks to our PTO parent volunteers for their hard work on this. It is great to see the students get excited about giving back to the community. We are always very proud of our Maltby students and their families for their generosity. Here are some examples of what items you can donate:
Planners: Please sign the planner for Friday! Math: We will start Unit 3 on Monday! Reading/Writing: We are working on Book Clubs! Science: We are learning about Zebra Mussels. Homework: Complete one thought box, be ready to talk about your book club book at your meeting on Monday, read for 20 minutes, and fill out the reading log. Parent To Do list:

Happy Tuesday Parents!
We made it to Thanksgiving Break! All grades should be in by the end of Today! Grades could change based on absent work. If your student has no missing work, then grades should stay the same! Here are some announcements for next week: The Canned Food Drive is coming up. Please start collecting canned food items and nonperishable items. My class won it last year, and I would love to continue the tradition with this class! Thanksgiving Break - Wednesday, November 22nd to Monday, November 27th. Return to school on Tuesday, November 28th. Students need to wear their ID cards and DOG tags every day. They are allowed to keep them here at school. This protocol is essential since Maltby is so big that if all students have their cards and tags on them, we can identify them in passing times. Planners: No planners! Math: We will be reviewing long division after we come back from break. Then, we will officially test on division and remainders. Feel free to practice your multiplication facts during break! Reading/Writing: Read your student's personal narrative on Google Classroom. Science: We will be starting our new Unit after break. Homework: Enjoy your family time! Of course, you can get some reading in, or even time on Power Up or Imagine Math if you want! Parent To Do list:
