Hello, Parents!
Students are deep in their Area and Volume unit. Students will be tested on Unit 1 later next week. Also, students should have taken an AR test this week for reading. If your student still needs to take one, they will need one as soon as they finish their book. Remember, students need 20 AR points by the end of the trimester. Also, Friday Folders are going home this week. Please clear out the folder, sign the communication sheet, and send the folder to school with your student on Monday. Here are some announcements for next week: Students need to be wearing their ID Cards and DOG Tags every day. They are allowed to keep them here at school. This protocol is essential since Maltby is so big that if all students have their cards and tags on them, we can identify them in passing times. **Students do need headphones and computer mice for class every day. Please send in plug-in headphones and mice (not Bluetooth) for your student starting Monday, October 2nd.** Planners: Please sign the planner for Friday! Math: We are halfway through Unit 1. We will be finishing Unit One by the end of next week. Remember to study by reviewing your homelinks, math journal pages, and math boxes. If your student is absent, all the lesson videos are on Google Classroom. Reading/Writing: Students worked on finding Just Right books and working on Power Up (Lexia). Remember, they are only reading one book! This book is the same book they read at home and school. Also, students are working on sticky notes in our books. So, students are expected to write one to two sticky notes in their book per reading time. Science: Students took their metric unit quiz last week, and we reviewed evidence-based writing with a CER Showdown. We continue working on CER (Claim Evidence Reasoning) writing in science to be experts by our first unit! Social Studies: Students finished their America projects and are now moving on to continents and oceans. Homework: Finish Math Boxes 1.9 on Math Journal Page 27, read 20 minutes, and fill out the reading log Parent To Do list:

Hello, Parents!
Week three of school is done, and now we are getting down to business. Last week, students started on the first unit in Math, which is all about Area and Volume. We explored area and volume with 2D and 3D shapes, too. Also, students could find "Just Right" books and start recording their reading on a Reading Log. We did go to the Library this week, and students are now reading a book for AR points. Remember, the goal is to get 15 AR points by the end of the trimester! Students should take their first AR Test by this Thursday, September 29th. Lastly, one of the biggest goals for students is to stay organized and to gain responsibility by taking and bringing back school materials every night. This goal is a constant reminder in the classroom, and with enough practice, I hope the students will get in the groove by the end of September! Planners: Please sign the planner for Friday! Math: We started unit 1 in math. Students are working hard, and we took our first mini quiz on the first four lessons. We will continue to take these mini-quizzes to see how students are doing throughout the unit. I have included the Family Letter for the unit and the answers to the homelinks (at the bottom of this blog post) just in case your student is struggling at home.
