Happy Friday, Parents!

We had a wonderful week thinking analytically about our books to help us get reading for book clubs starting Monday. Also, for Unit 2 in math, students will be working on Multiplication and Division. It is time for students to practice their multiplication facts, especially their 6’s, 7’s, 8’s, 9’s, 11’s, and 12’s. Here’s a website they can do at home to practice: https://www.timestables.com/flash-cards.html.

Here is some information for next week:

We are still collecting items for Hero Gift Packs. Please see the attached flyer at the bottom of the blog post to see what items to bring in.

We will be celebrating Halloween on Monday, October 31st. It is an actual hero day, so dress like a nurse, doctor, cop, firefighter, or any real hero in our society! Our day will consist of math games, spooky writing, and reading, and we will end our day with a movie. Thank you to the parents who donated items for the Halloween party. We will need
Just a reminder: Students can not wear their costumes to school.

Book Clubs start next week! The book they choose as a group will be an AR book, the only book they read at home and school. There will be a daily reading schedule that they must complete each day (this includes the weekend). Students must fill out an item on their thought box page, which will be graded for a reading grade. Sticky noting while reading will help them fill out the thought boxes. I will explain this to them on Tuesday, but I wanted to give you a heads-up, so you know the expectations. Students will take their ELA binder home every night and bring it back to school. I am very excited about book clubs, so please be cheerful at home to keep the engagement alive!

Planners: Please sign the planner for Everyday!
Math: Unit 2 is on a roll, and students use the traditional US strategy for multiplication. Please practice by playing Top-It on EverydayMathThe homelinks are on Google Classroom.

The assignment is due Monday. Students will be doing book clubs soon, so please look forward to seeing that work coming home soon.

Happy Friday, Parents!

Homecoming week has ended, and the students had a blast dressing up for spirit week. Students also had many fun days implementing the four C’s (Collaboration, Communication, Creativity, and Critically Thinking) in our STEM Mania for science. Also, students took their first math test of the year. We do offer retakes for each math standard on the test. If students get a 70% or lower on the standard, students can decide to retake. If they do, they will receive reteaching and take that part of the test sometime after the reteaching.

Here is some information for next week:

No School on Monday, October 10th.

Math Test News:
  • If your student did not come to school on Thursday, October 6th, or Friday, October 7th, they will get the math Review on Tuesday, October 11th, and take the test on Wednesday, October 12th.
  • If your student did not come to school on Friday, October 7th, then your student will take the math test on Tuesday, October 11th.

**Students need headphones and computer mouses for class daily. Please send plug-in headphones and mouses (not Bluetooth), if possible, by Tuesday, October 11th**.

Fifth Grade camp is next Thursday and Friday! Please watch the weather so you can dress your student appropriately since we will be outside most of the day. Also, students are provided lunch and dinner on those days, so please just feed your child breakfast! We had a mini camp meeting with the students today and we will have one on Tuesday, October 11th.

Keep selling the Little Ceasars Pizza Kits! The fundraiser ends on October 16th.
