Happy Friday!
We have four more wake-ups! Please read this part of the email! It will tell you all the information for the last week of school! On Monday, we will be having a desk and locker cleanout! Please send your student with extra bags if they have leftover clothes, school supplies, or locker decorations. Also, we will be signing yearbooks on Monday Morning. Please have your student bring a Sharpie marker for their yearbook. If your student still needs to purchase a yearbook, we will have premade books that students can use to get signatures! On Tuesday, students are participating in a school wide lip-dup! It will be a fun morning! For Field Day (on Wednesday), students will wear their Maltby Class T-shirts and may bring a small backpack or a drawstring backpack containing their water bottle and any other items they need. I highly recommend that students wear tennis shoes and appropriate clothing for outdoor activities! Our field day is from 12:35 to 3:20! On Thursday, students will need nothing but themselves! We will have our poetry slam, a mini celebration of 5th grade, and finish the year by writing a letter to the future 5th graders who will enter our classrooms in the Fall! Here are some announcements for this week and next week: Locker and Desk Clean Out on Monday, June 8th! Signing Yeards book on Monday, June 8th! Field Day is on Wednesday, June 10th Last Day of School is Thursday, June 11th. Dismissal at 12:30 pm! Snack: Snack will only be 10 to 15 minutes, which includes brain breaks or going outside. Snack will not be an all-day event. I would like to have one of the Brighton Therapy Dogs come into our classroom, so I have put this rule in place to keep our Dogs safe. AR: Students will try to meet their own AR goal for the 3rd Trimester. The AR Test can only be taken at school. Students will also get an AR Comprehension grade, which should be between 80% and 100%. Late/Absent Work: Students will have homework, and they will have absent work if they are not at school. All homework is written in the planner, and we put our daily work agenda on Google Classroom. If you have not yet joined Google Classroom, please do so soon so you can stay up to date on what is happening in class. I take 10% off for students who turn in late work since it is not turned in on time. Also, for absent work, students have as many days as they were absent, plus one day to complete it. For example, if your student is absent on Monday and returns to school on Tuesday, their absent work will be due on Thursday. Imagine Math and Lexia Weekly Goals: Each student has a goal to meet their Lexia goal of 20 units and their Imagine Math goal of 2 Lessons passed to complete each week. For the trimester, students still have 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete these goals in school. If students do not complete it, they will complete it during the DOGS reward. Remember, Lexia and Imagine Math can be done at home. I will make adjustments and accommodations as needed. Students who go to FLEX have a goal of 10 units and 1 lesson passed. Reading Log: The Reading Log that was given out has 20 boxes for the students to complete each night they read. Once they complete the entire sheet, they will turn it in for a PAWSITIVE and receive a new one. This is not a grade, but a piece of paper to keep your student accountable to read. I will also check whether your student is taking the AR test to confirm they are reading books. Please encourage them to read 20 minutes at night at least 5 times a week. Students need to wear their ID cards and DOG tags every day. They may keep them here at school. This protocol is essential because Maltby is so large; if all students have their cards and tags on them, we can identify them during passing times. Planners: Sign Planner Math: We finished working through Unit 8. Reading/Writing: Students finish their codex project and are now working on Poetry. Science: Students are working on their planet brochure. Homework: Reading for AR and homelinks Parent To Do list:
Have a great week! Mrs. Orrico

If you have any questions, please email me at [email protected]. Please have a nice spring break! Mrs. Orrico Happy Friday!
We had a great week of NWEA testing, and we are done testing for now. MSTEP Testing will take place after spring break. Remember, we only have 10 school days left until Spring Break! This trimester, please set some goals for students at home. We have made our AR goals, and a piece of paper was sent home yesterday for you to sign. Please review that goal and make a reading plan at home. Also, for the key learning sheet, please make sure your student is filling out the reading logs. These papers will be graded each week. It is important that students are filling out each side of the key learning. Another important reminder: chewing GUM at school is not allowed. There have been many students in class chewing gum and getting caught. The school’s handbook states there is no chewing gum, so my rule is that if they are caught chewing gum twice, then they will be written up and have a 30-minute lunch detention. Here are some announcements for next week: Math Test on Wednesday Next Week and Science Test on Thursday Next Week! This week's students worked hard with their group members to finish up their survival guide for the National Parks. I will take pictures of the final projects and post them in the Facebook group as each group presents! Please ask your student what they learned from their survival guide. Also, please ensure your student is reading at home. I have reviewed AR, and many students have not read a book this month, so they have little to no AR points. We have at least 10 to 15 minutes of reading each day, and they should read at least 20 minutes on 5 of the 7 days of the week. Every Friday, I will be doing an AR check to see how students are doing. We did one today, and 17/30 students are on track or have met their AR goals! We have 10 school days remaining in the 2nd trimester, so there is still plenty of time to meet their goals! Here are some announcements for next week: Kindness Week next week! Spirit Week Days are…

We have been doing lots of group work, so students are getting the chance to work with Ms. Forte’s students to create this guide. Our class is celebrating Valentine’s Day on Thursday, February 12th. This day will be filled with Valentine’s Day Activities for each Subject. Then, in the afternoon around 1:30 we will enjoy a film and a snack provided by myself and Mrs. Forte. We will be passing out Valentines that day and we will be decorating a bag in the morning so students can bring all their Valentine’s Day Goodies home with them. They do not need to bring in a box. For giving out valentines, please make sure if you are giving them out to give them out to each student in our class. If you want to give them to Mrs. Forte’s students, you can do so, but it is optional. Thank you so much to the Parents who volunteered to help us with the craft on Wednesday. I am sure the student will appreciate your help! Lastly, please ensure your student is reading at home. We have 25 school days remaining in the 2nd trimester, so there is still plenty of time to meet their goals! Here are some announcements for next week: No School on Friday, February 13th, and Monday, February 16th! Enjoy your Mid-Winter Break! Snack: Snack will only be 10 to 15 minutes, which includes brain breaks or going outside. Snack will not be an all-day event. I would like to have one of the Brighton Therapy Dogs come into our classroom, so I have put this rule in place to keep our Dogs safe. AR: Students will try to meet their goal of 15 AR points for the 2nd Trimester. Imagine Math and Lexia Weekly Goals: Each student has a goal to meet their Lexia goal of 10 units and their Imagine Math Lesson of 1 Lesson passed to complete each week. For the trimester, students still have 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete these goals in school. If students do not complete it, they will complete it during the DOGS reward. Remember, Lexia and Imagine Math can be done at home. I will make adjustments and accommodations as needed. Students who go to FLEX have a goal of 5 units and 1 lesson passed. Planners: Sign Planner Math: Last Week, students took the Unit 5 A-C test. I will have them graded this week and returned by Friday. Reading/Writing: Students are working in groups to write a survival guide on a National Park. Science: Last week, we finished the wetlands unit and started learning about Physical and Chemical Change. Homework: Parent To Do list:
