Hello Parents,
Wow, what a week with two snow/ice days! Even though it was a short week, students were able to work on adding and subtracting decimals. We took our test today and will start Unit 5 on Monday. The homelinks are already on Google Classroom. ALERT: Scientific Method Projects are due next Friday, March 3rd. Remember Students need to fill out the last three slides on their Google Slides. They can add slides to their presentations if they want to add pictures or videos of their experiment. Students will be presenting their Google Slide Presentations in small groups next Friday, so have them practice their presentations with you at home! I am looking forward to seeing what students come up with. Also, students need to remember to bring their planners to school. I see a lot of students without it. Also, students need to get it signed by a parent every day. Please remember that students need to be responsible and show you their planners every day! It might be a good idea to come up with a system for when they can show you their planner for you to sign it. Here is some information for next week: Trimester 2 ends on Friday, March 10th! Planners: Please sign the planner for every day! Math: We are moving on to Unit 5 on Monday, which is about using Fractions with the four operations. Reading/Writing: Students worked on a Figurative Language Mini Book, and we started our Non-Fiction Unit. We will dive deep into non-fiction reading next week. Also, students have reading goals for AR points, so please ensure your student is reading at home. Science: Students watch Science Fair on Disney Plus to relate our scientific method project to real life. Please remember projects are due March 3rd! Social Studies: Look on Mrs. Krayer’s Google Classroom for social studies for all assignments. Homework: Work on the scientific method project (due March 3rd), read for 20 minutes, and write it in the reading log. Parent to-do list:
If you have any questions, please email me at [email protected]. Sincerely, Miss Vuichard

Hello Parents,
We had a great week filled with fun and learning! Valentine’s Day was a hit! Thank you to the families who donated. Students learn about pictographs in math using Candy Hearts as our data. In ELA, students did a mini book of literary terms, and we ended the day with a yummy treat and a movie. The students had a great day! For the rest of the week, we finished our text structure unit. Next, we will be moving on to our Non-Fiction Unit. Students will practice reading and writing about informational text. This learning will help out students get ready for MSTEP writing. Also, students had this entire week to work on their scientific method project. Remember, now it is an at-home project, so students should be working on it at home. The projects are due March 3rd. Also, students need to remember to bring their planets to school. I see a lot of students without it. Also, students need to get it signed by a parent every day. Please remember that students need to be responsible and show you their planners every day! It might be a good idea to come up with a system for when they can show you their planner for you to sign it. Here is some information for next week: No School on Monday, February 20th! Trimester 2 ends on Friday, March 10th! Planners: Please sign the planner for every day! Math: Students are working on adding and subtracting decimals. We will be testing this skill later next week. This week was full of decimals, text structure, and the scientific method. The students worked hard reading passages, identifying signal words, and organizing details in the text in the appropriate graphic organizer for the text structure we are learning. For Math, students completed the first nine lessons, and we will be testing Monday on decimal place value, rounding and comparing decimals, and coordinate grids. Please check in with your student to see how they are doing in this unit. Remember, students will need 20 units of Power Up (Lexia) and pass two lessons on Imagine Math to participate in DOGS Reward on Fridays. This goal is a new reward system that most 5th Grade classes are doing. I have seen significant growth in students understanding concepts in Math and excelling in reading foundations by using both of these programs. Students do have time to work on these new goals in school. But they may have to do it at home as well. Please talk to your student about how they can achieve this goal. **Valentine’s Day is Tuesday! I want to say thank you to those parents who donated to our celebration. Please bring the items in on Monday, February 13th! I have given students a class list for students who would like to pass out valentine's cards/goodies. The rule is that if you decide to make valentine’s cards, you will need to make one for every student in our class. We have 30 students total, so your student will need to make 29 valentine’s cards. I plan to do a STEM activity in the morning, watch a movie, and enjoy a snack in the afternoon.
