Hello, Parents!

This week we took the Science and Social Studies MSTEP. We also learned about hooks and endings to make our argumentative essays better than before. In math, students are halfway through the unit. They took a formative test on Monday, so see how they are doing in the first half of this unit. Check with your student to see how they did. Also, students should be reading for 20 minutes every night. So please make sure students are filling out their reading logs each night. Also, please read the information about DOGS Tags. These tags will be a daily item that students will need to have.

Donuts for two dollars are happening next Friday, May 6th!

MSTEP Testing Dates:
  • Math Testing on Monday, May 9th, and Tuesday, May 10th

Directions (Do this over the weekend)
  1. Click MSTEP Online Tool Training
  2. Click Sample Item Sets (Click Here)
  3. Click 5th Grade
  4. Click Math
  5. Sign In using the Username and Password Given
  6. Read each page and press next
  7. Begin the Sample Test

DOGS Tags are starting to be used every day at school. They need them for walking in the hallway, library, lunch, intramurals, and DOGS Recess/Rewards. Students will be staying in for DOGS Recess/Rewards if they do not have their DOGS Tag for the listed activities above! 

We are looking for a Class Donation of Pencils and Expo Markers! We are running low, and we use them every day. So please donate if you can!

Students now have the responsibility of using their lockers. Please practice their combination at home. Also, students should have a homework folder that they will bring to school each day. This folder should contain their reading log, homelinks, math journal, and other homework. If you have any questions, email me. 

Parents! what you need to sign this week:
  • Planner
  • Reading Log (These are counted as a grade and need to be turned in on Mondays)
  • Friday Folder Communication Sheet
    • Please take all papers from this week out of Friday Folder.

Parent Connect/Gradebooks: Parents, you can start checking Parent Connect to see what assignments your student is missing or incomplete and see what they have received on homework and test. For missing assignments, I would suggest showing your students what the assignment is and looking for it in their backpack, desk, or locker. If they can’t find it, please tell me to make a new copy. Students could also check their grades using Student Connect if they didn’t know. This can be found on the Brighton Area Schools website under “I am a Student.” Please email me if you have any questions. 

Absent Students: Please look on Google Classroom for Assignments and Homework that you missed.

Planners: Please sign the planner every day!
Math: Halfway through the unit. Please make sure your student is doing the homelinks when assigned. We are looking at possible test dates for the first week of May.
Reading/Writing: Students are working on their argumentative writing piece about if cell phones should or should not be in the classroom. They are planning to have these typed out by Friday, May 6th.
Science: Students are studying matter and its properties. Students created a comic for one of the topics we learned in class. Watch their video on Google Classroom. 
Social Studies: Please check Mrs. Krayer’s Classroom for absent work and use the TCI website through Clever. 


Clever Apps to do at home:
  • Power Up
    • Goal: Students can receive a Pawsitive, gaining more than 10 or 15 units. We do spend at least 60 minutes throughout the week on Power-Up.
  • Imagine Math 
    • Goal: 20 minutes a day. Students spend at least 60 minutes throughout the week on Imagine Math.
  • Khan Academy Mappers:
    • Students can use this app to increase their knowledge of mathematics that they need and are ready for. This program generates mathematical skills and concepts based on their NWEA scores. They can sign in using the link on Google Classroom.

Our 5th Graders Are Getting Down to Work

Hello, Parents!

This week we focused on finding evidence for our argumentative essays. In math, students learned how to make line plots and answered questions from the data. For science, students learn about the difference between weight and mass and their role in what matter is. Also, students should be reading for 20 minutes every night. So please make sure students are filling out their reading logs each night. Also, please read the information about DOGS Tags. These tags will be a daily item that students will need to have.

Churros for $2 and Drinks for $1 are starting up again on Friday Mornings at School!

We Made Through ELA MSTEP!

Hello, Parents!

This week we focused on MSTEP Testing. The students did a great job with their first round of testing for ELA. For Math, we started our unit on Decimals. Remember, homelinks for this each unit are on Google Classroom. For Science, the Unit Test is in Mistar. Please make sure you are checking grades as we enter the third trimester. Also, students should be reading for 20 minutes every night. Please make sure students are filling out their reading logs each night.

MSTEP Preparation Information and Lots of Learning Going on in 5th Grade

Hello, Parents!

I hope everyone had a relaxing spring break! We jumped right back into school, finishing our math unit on Tuesday and starting Unit 6: Decimals. For ELA, we are preparing for the MSTEP. Also, we will be doing an AR check Thursday, April 14th!

Students should be bringing all their materials home and back to school every day. This will help students who have to quarantine due to exposure to Covid-19. Students who are quarantined or absent NEED to look on Google Classroom for our daily assignment post. Our students must stay on top of their school work when they are not here at school. Please email me if you have any questions or comments.
