Hello Parents,
This week was full of decimals, text structure, and the scientific method. The students worked hard reading passages, identifying signal words, and organizing details in the text in the appropriate graphic organizer for the text structure we are learning. For Math, students completed the first nine lessons, and we will be testing Monday on decimal place value, rounding and comparing decimals, and coordinate grids. Please check in with your student to see how they are doing in this unit. Remember, students will need 20 units of Power Up (Lexia) and pass two lessons on Imagine Math to participate in DOGS Reward on Fridays. This goal is a new reward system that most 5th Grade classes are doing. I have seen significant growth in students understanding concepts in Math and excelling in reading foundations by using both of these programs. Students do have time to work on these new goals in school. But they may have to do it at home as well. Please talk to your student about how they can achieve this goal. **Valentine’s Day is Tuesday! I want to say thank you to those parents who donated to our celebration. Please bring the items in on Monday, February 13th! I have given students a class list for students who would like to pass out valentine's cards/goodies. The rule is that if you decide to make valentine’s cards, you will need to make one for every student in our class. We have 30 students total, so your student will need to make 29 valentine’s cards. I plan to do a STEM activity in the morning, watch a movie, and enjoy a snack in the afternoon.
