Hello Parents,
Happy February! This week was full of work. Students worked hard preparing for their tests and doing daily homework. For ELA, we finished our Figurative Language unit and will start our Non-fiction Unit, focusing on Context Clues and different types of Text Structure. Homework will include reading and writing. In Math, we are still working on decimals. Please look on Google Classroom for Homelinks. Remember, students will need 20 units of Power Up (Lexia) and pass 2 lessons on Imagine Math to participate in DOGS Reward on Fridays. This goal is a new reward system that most 5th Grade classes are doing. I have seen significant growth in students understanding concepts in Math and excelling in reading foundations by using both of these programs. Students do have time to work on these new goals in school. But they may have to do it at home as well. Please talk to your student about how they can achieve this goal. **Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching. I have given students a class list for students who would like to pass out valentine's cards/goodies. The rule is that if you decide to make valentine’s cards, you will need to make one for every student in our class. We have 30 students total, so your student will need to make 29 valentine’s cards. I plan to do a STEM activity in the morning, watch a movie, and enjoy a snack in the afternoon. I have created a Sign Up Genius to ask for donations for that day. Please look at the Sign Up Genius to see what we need. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0F4BADA629A6F8C07-valentines1 Here is some information for next week: Planners: Please sign the planner for every day! Math: We are working on Unit 4, which is decimals. Unit 4 Homelinks will be on Google Classroom. Reading/Writing: We are now moving to our Non-Fiction unit in reading. Also, students have reading goals for AR points, so please ensure your student is reading at home. Science: We took the Go With The Flow Test for Cycle 2. We will start our Scientific Method Unit, which includes an at-home and at-school project. So please look forward to doing that. Social Studies: Look on Mrs. Krayer’s Google Classroom for social studies for all assignments. Homework: Homelink 4.5, Read Mount Rushmore's article, answer the question at the bottom, and fill out the graphic organizer, read for 20 minutes, and write it in the reading log. Parent to-do list:
If you have any questions, please email me at [email protected]. Sincerely, Miss Vuichard
