Hello Parents,
Wow, what a week with TWO Snow Days! I know I enjoyed the time off, and I hope you did too! We have officially started our unit on decimals. Students are learning to read, write and represent decimals. For ELA, please keep students reading at home! We are two months away from the end of the trimester, and it is a good idea to keep ahead of their AR goal now, so they are not worried about it when it is March. Also, we are done with our figurative language unit, and it is time to test. Please make sure your child is studying during the three day weekend. Remember, students will need 20 units of Power Up (Lexia) and pass 2 lessons on Imagine Math to participate in DOGS Reward on Fridays. This goal is a new reward system that most 5th Grade classes are doing. I have seen great growth in students understanding concepts in Math and excelling in reading foundations by using both of these programs. Students do have time to work on these new goals in school. But they may have to do it at home as well. Please talk to your student about how they can achieve this goal. Here is some information for next week: Remember No School on Monday, January 30th. Planners: Please sign the planner for every day! Math: We are working on Unit 4, which is decimals. Unit 4 Homelinks will be on Google Classroom. Reading/Writing: We are still working on our figurative language unit. We have our figurative language test on Tuesday. It will only be a matching test of figurative language terms and definitions. Also, students have reading goals for AR points, so please ensure your student is reading at home. Science: We worked on a Science Water Cycle Project this week. We have one more project to do then we will start reviewing for the unit test. Social Studies: Look on Mrs. Krayer’s Google Classroom for social studies for all assignments. Homework: Do Symbolism worksheet, math boxes on page 120 in math journal, study for figurative language test on Tuesday, study for Social Studies test on Wednesday, read for 20 minutes, and write it in the reading log.
